Chair caning was introduced into this country in the second half of the 17th century. At first the caning was very coarse with large widely spaced holes in the woodwork. Later it became finer and much more closely woven. The popularity of caning has fluctuated over the years, and was almost in danger of dying out altogether after the 2nd World War. It is now regaining its popularity and many old broken chairs are finding their way out of attics to take their rightful place in the home. You will find that the time spent on re-caning chairs will be amply rewarded. Best quality hanks. Approx. 60-70 grams to seat a chair bottom of 300 x 300mm. Our cane can also be darkened with dyes. 250 GRAM PACKS BELOW.
